Turning Barriers into Beauty: A Living Stones Story

You might remember Ruby, a student with cerebral palsy who couldn’t speak but radiated so much joy. Ruby impacted our entire community, and her classmates connected with her through shared experiences and simple acts of friendship.

Now, six years later, this class is graduating high school. We were able to arrange a video call between four LSA alumni and Ruby and her dad, Philip Douse. In a video about the lasting power of a Living Stones education, four alumni share how Ruby’s friendship changed them.

“You guys were kids, breaking down those barriers,” Philip says. “Isn’t that what God wants? That everybody is treated or looked at equally?”

In the video, you’ll also meet LSA students in upper elementary who are creating similar friendships and connections. Meladie, Ephraim, and their friends are part of a community where love, belonging, and Christ are at the center. As Ephraim’s dad Branson puts it, “This is a community that would walk with us to help us learn and explore, and has Ephriam’s best interests at heart, and sees who he is as a unique person.”

This video is a reminder that at LSA, barriers don’t get the last word. Love does. Christ’s love, lived out in classrooms where everyone is welcomed, seen, and celebrated.
