Educational Support Paraprofessional

LSA Paraprofessional Job Description

A. Purpose

Living Stones Academy is seeking a Paraprofessional who:
● Is enthusiastic about Christ-centered education.
● Has a passion for working with young children with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
● Serves to assist the Educational Support Services Coordinator and General Education Teachers in meeting the needs of individual students with significant needs.
● Will report to the Educational Support Services Coordinator.

B. Job Requirements and Responsibilities

Must have completed two years of college, and have experience working with young children. This individual must exhibit a genuine, nurturing, caring attitude to all children.

Responsibilities:
  1. Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills as identified by a behavior intervention plan, IEP, or Individual Student Plan.
  2. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in activities.
  3. Assist the Educational Support Services (ESS) Coordinator and General Education Teachers in maintaining a safe learning environment and ensuring the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care.
  4. Attend to student’s physical needs such as bathroom assistance.
  5. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for students and monitor their progress. This includes but is not limited to small group/push-in math or language arts support.
  6. Attend training opportunities as recommended by the ESS Coordinator or Head of School.
  7. Attend planning/progress monitoring meetings.
  8. Form and maintain trusting relationships with students.
Requirements:

  2. Model Christ-like behavior.
  3. Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
  4. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  5. Interact with children, including bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, and walking.
  6. Maintain a calm demeanor when interacting with students with behavioral challenges.

C. Terms of Employment

Hours of work and schedule are determined on an annual basis, based upon program needs and
availability of funds. Using the position description as a basis, there will be an annual evaluation.

D. Job Classification and Compensation

This is a non-exempt position, meaning that it is not exempt from the hourly wage and labor laws. Monday through Friday, 7:45-3:15. Mid-August to Early June.

Director of Student Support

LSA Director of Student Support Job Description

A. Purpose

The Director of Student Support serves to provide academic and behavior support to students in Preschool through 6th grade. These supports are provided through direct services, teacher and parent consultation, classroom accommodations, coordination of services, and supervising paraprofessionals, interventionists, tutors, and counselors. The Director of Student Support is aperson who is enthusiastic about Christ-centered education, passionate about working with children with diverse learning needs, and committed to helping all students flourish.

B. Job Requirements and Responsibilities

Must have a Bachelor’s degree and valid teaching certificate, including a special educationendorsement, in the state of Michigan. Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the team of support staff by directing work and providing necessary feedback and support. Ensure that interventions and accommodations are implemented faithfully.
  2. Work collaboratively with other staff members, Title 1 tutors, GRPS service providers, and All Belong.
  3. Come alongside teachers and paraprofessionals to ensure that students with significant needs are making appropriate strides toward goals.
  4. Coordinate and facilitate Student Support Team Meetings, Benchmark Meetings, Child Study Team Meetings, and IEP/ISP planning meetings. Participate in conferences as needed.
  5. Facilitate school-wide Aimsweb testing, progress monitoring, and Response to Intervention.
  6. Evaluate and identify skills, learning styles, and neurodevelopmental patterns by using diagnostic tools or other informal assessments.
  7. Maintain records and manage flow of paperwork (ISPs, 504/accommodation plans, summary reports, Aimsweb reports, monitoring forms, etc.)
  8. Remediate learning deficits by providing direct, assessment informed, developmentally appropriate instruction in a small group or individual setting.
  9. Provide positive behavior support and implement behavior plans when necessary.
  10. Maintain a safe, inclusive, learning environment that celebrates each individual student.
  11. Maintain high expectations for all students regardless of their socio-economic background, race or ethnicity, family structure, or standard English proficiency.
  12. Document any important observations regarding student development, behavior, illness, or injury.
  13. Contribute to the school wide community by maintaining a positive attitude, praying for other staff members and students, fulfilling recess and lunch duties, and serving on school committees as determined by the Head of School.
  14. Attend all professional development opportunities provided by Living Stones Academy or other agencies as recommended by the Head of School.
