2nd Grade Teacher

Job Description

A. Purpose

The 2nd grade teacher serves as the primary instructor, role model, and spiritual guide for the students in their class. We are seeking a teacher who is enthusiastic about Christ-centered education, passionate about working with children from diverse backgrounds and with diverse abilities, and committed to helping all students flourish.

B. Job Requirements and Responsibilities

Must have a Baccalaureate degree and a valid teaching license in the state of Michigan.

Responsibilities:
  1.  Provide instruction that is distinctly Christian and accessible to a diverse group of learners.
  2. Provide quality instruction in the following subject areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Bible, Handwriting, and Second Step (social-emotional).
  3. Maintain a safe, inclusive, learning environment that celebrates each individual student.
  4. Provide positive behavior support, manage classroom behaviors, and implement behavior plans when necessary.
  5. Contribute to the school wide community by maintaining a positive attitude, praying for other staff members and students, fulfilling recess and lunch duties, and serving on school committees as determined by the Head of School.
  6. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with unique learning needs using flexible
    grouping.
  7. Support Remote Learning if/when necessary.
  8. Develop positive relationships with parents and students built on mutual respect and trust.
  9. Assess student progress towards grade level standards and use assessment results to inform instruction.
  10. Maintain high expectations for all students regardless of their socio-economic background, race or ethnicity, family structure, or standard English proficiency.
Requirements:
  1. Model Christ-like behavior both in and outside of the classroom.
  2. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  3. Work collaboratively with other staff members.
  4. Promote the mission of Living Stones Academy both individually and institutionally.
  5. Protect all children from physical punishment or verbal abuse by anyone in any program activity,
    and immediately report any such incident to the Head of School.
  6. Attend all professional development opportunities provided by Living Stones Academy or other agencies as recommended by the Head of School.

C. Job Classification and Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt position, meaning that it is exempt from the hourly wage and labor laws. Salary will be determined annually.

Educational Support Paraprofessional

LSA Paraprofessional Job Description

A. Purpose

Living Stones Academy is seeking a Paraprofessional who:
● Is enthusiastic about Christ-centered education.
● Has a passion for working with young children with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.
● Serves to assist the Educational Support Services Coordinator and General Education Teachers in meeting the needs of individual students with significant needs.
● Will report to the Educational Support Services Coordinator.

B. Job Requirements and Responsibilities

Must have completed two years of college, and have experience working with young children. This individual must exhibit a genuine, nurturing, caring attitude to all children.

Responsibilities:
  1. Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills as identified by a behavior intervention plan, IEP, or Individual Student Plan.
  2. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in activities.
  3. Assist the Educational Support Services (ESS) Coordinator and General Education Teachers in maintaining a safe learning environment and ensuring the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care.
  4. Attend to student’s physical needs such as bathroom assistance.
  5. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for students and monitor their progress. This includes but is not limited to small group/push-in math or language arts support.
  6. Attend training opportunities as recommended by the ESS Coordinator or Head of School.
  7. Attend planning/progress monitoring meetings.
  8. Form and maintain trusting relationships with students.
Requirements:
  1. Believe every child is made in God’s image and has gifts and abilities that will enrich the communities of which they are a part.
  2. Model Christ-like behavior.
  3. Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
  4. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  5. Interact with children, including bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, and walking.
  6. Maintain a calm demeanor when interacting with students with behavioral challenges.

C. Terms of Employment

Hours of work and schedule are determined on an annual basis, based upon program needs and
availability of funds. Using the position description as a basis, there will be an annual evaluation.

D. Job Classification and Compensation

This is a non-exempt position, meaning that it is not exempt from the hourly wage and labor laws. Monday through Friday, 7:45-3:15. Mid-August to Early June.
