What to expect

Preschoolers at LSA spend their preschool time playing in their activity centers and at recess, practicing their handwriting and math, creating art projects, eating snacks, learning new songs, and listening to their teachers read stories. Music is used a lot in our classroom — formally in the Music Together program (new this year), and more informally in games and ways to reinforce concepts. Our preschoolers love exploring the world, so we love taking them on field trips — to an apple orchard, a pumpkin patch, museums, zoos, gymnastics gyms, and other places they can learn and explore. Students participate in the LSA Christmas program, and also have a special year-end program for parents.

preschool1Our curriculum

Our  sequential learning curriculum prepares preschoolers for academics in kindergarten and elementary school. When preparing to teach preschoolers, we pay special attention to all their needs – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social development.

For Bible, we use CSI Bible Curriculum and supplemental Bible stories. For phonics, we use Zoo Phonics, and emphasize a letter each week. For handwriting, we use the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. Our students use Get Ready for School math as well as lots of opportunities for exploring on their own with patterns, counting, and measuring.

preschool3An unmistakable Christian perspective

At LSA, we work together in a community to honor our creator God in all aspects of our day. In preschool, this means we have daily devotions, learn lots of Bible stories (using CSI Bible curriculum), worship as a community, and talk a lot about the wonder of creation. It also means that when we talk about discipline and conflicts with our friends, we also talk about grace. Preschoolers also are given the opportunity to lead prayers in the classroom and lead the community worship as a class.
